The heritage township that is Pekan Sungai Besi, situated about 10km from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, has been around since the 1930s when it was known as one of the deepest tin mines in Malaya (as it was then known). In fact, historian JM Gullick in “A History of Kuala Lumpur” wrote that the tin mine was one of the biggest manmade holes in the world covering a total surface area of five hectares.
